Aubrey Jeannette Oakley

Last Tuesday we went to the doctor to find out what we were having. I drank a ton of water because somebody told me that would help w/ the sonogram...all it helped with was me having to pee when the lady pushed the machine into my belly. The first time we tried it the baby had her legs crossed. They had me go to the bathroom and checked it again. This time the technician said it was definitely a girl!!! I knew it all along, but it was so great to finally have it confirmed. They had me get up and walk around and try it again because they couldn't get a good picture of her face. We never could get a good look at her because she had her head curled down into her chest. They said they would do another ultrasound at my next appointment to try and get a better picture of her face. She is still set to come into the world on October 4, 2010.

After we got out of the appointment we HAD to go to Kohl's to buy her first outfit!! There was too much cute stuff so we walked out with more than one outfit. Since then we have been on the hunt for a pink Cardinals outfit. Danny said that his child would not wear anything Cubs and if we get something Cubs it will be used as a baby wipe. We found two really cute onesies at Wal-mart yesterday so Danny is happy. I think we buy her an outfit for Aubrey every time we go to the store!

It's been so great to call her by name, it makes her finally seem real. I talk to her all the time and I blame my McDonald's breakfast runs on the fact that Aubrey wants Mcdonalds. I've started to feel her kick when i lay down. The other day at work she was kicking up a storm in my ribs. I was waiting on a customer and I grabbed my side and they asked if I was ok. I said, "Yah my daughter just kicked me!"

Danny and Derek helped move some stuff out of Aubrey's room today. It seems so weird to think that will be Aubrey's room soon! My mom came to visit today and she bought Aubrey some new pants and some itty bitty shoes. We had to look through all Aubrey's new clothes!

Tonight I tripped over my own feet and fell. I fell to my knee first and then on my side. I think my knee took most of the fall. It didn't really hurt it just really scared me to think I could have hurt Aubrey. I kept laying still all night to make sure I could feel her kick. She was kicking up a storm like, "MOM? What'd you do that for!" I'm keeping an eye on how I feel and my rib to make sure everything is ok, so lets just hope this doesn't happen again!

Getting Ready for the New Year!

So, over the weekend I was driving home from Decatur and was going a wee bit fast around a corner and collided w/ the median. I hit so hard my radio shut off.  If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, I had to call into work and tell them I was in an accident. I saved my pride a little by NOT telling them it was a single vehicle accident. Karis, Danny, and Jim came to my rescue. They had to put on the spare tire to get it home. Good news…I’m ok…haha.  Danny’s mom and brother were great and let us use their vehicles while we got the car fixed.

The very next day Danny’s truck decided to die every time you hit the breaks. So that means every stop sign and stoplight you come to the truck dies. There are 4 stops signs and 2 stoplights from our house to Family Video. That’s a lot of stopping and starting. I almost hated to leave work because I wasn’t sure whether I would make it home.

Today I worked at the Fam Vid. We were super busy. I love working here because you never know from day today what might happen. Today alone I was picked up on my a man in a trench coat who later admitted he was married, told that Grease is not an acceptable movie to watch in the store (hello, it’s a classic) by a realtor that will go un-named, and was asked about some phone issues an old man was having (the Verizon store is next door and he was confused). Oh, AND someone from South Korea called me to wish me a Happy New Year (What up Kaila!!) I also made $30 bucks in commission, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but when you get there by make $1 or $.25 per customer; it’s actually a ton. So I had a pretty great day.

THEN, Danny called me to tell me my car was fixed and it only cost us $80! I bent both of my rims on the left side when I wrecked the car, go me! But it’s fixed and I am so happy it wasn’t something much worse. AND Danny’s truck ran the whole way home!! It didn’t die once!!  So, great day all in all…

Danny and I are going to see the Chase Nipples tonight at Snappers.  Should be a good time.  I’m super excited for this new year.  I think it will definitely be better than the last…not saying the past year was bad because it wasn’t (I got married and who ever thought that would happen? Haha).

Here are my New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. Start eating healthier
  2. Make it thru my Biggest Loser exercise tape w/o keeling over in pain
  3. Do my devotions every night
  4. Stop worrying so much about everything
  5. Make a baby!!!! (That’s actually #1)
  6. Get my brother to finally lay our wood floor in the kitchen? Maybe? This may still be on the list for 2011

I found a bible verse that will totally be my anthem for the new year:

“He does everything just right and on time, but people can never completely understand what he is doing.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

Breath of Heaven

This Christmas season has seemed so depressing. We don't have the money this year to get everyone an amazing present. There is no new baby to make this Christmas exciting. Danny and I are both working over Christmas. I just feel like I have out-grown Christmas. I have tried to focus on "the reason for the season," but it just seems like a story I have heard over and over again.

Today my Aunt Tina asked me if I would sing "Breath of Heaven" by Amy Grant at church on Sunday because we are going to be down visiting my mom and dad. I couldn't remember what the song was, so I downloaded it on itunes. As I began to listen I finally got what a grown-up Christmas means. I couldn't get through the song without crying. Here are the lyrics:

I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary, with a babe inside
And I wonder what I've done
Holy Father, you have come
And chosen me now
To carry your son

I am waiting in a silent prayer
I am frightened by the load I bear
In a world as cold as stone,
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now
Be with me now

Chorus:
Breath of heaven
Hold me together
Be forever near me
Breath of heaven
Breath of heaven
Light in my darkness
Pour over me your holiness
For you are holy

Breath of heaven

Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one one should have had my place
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong
Help me be
Help me

I can finally understand Christmas as Mary must have seen it now that I am old enough to carry a child.  I can't imagine what it must have felt like to have this awesome gift from God, but have everyone else think you were pregnant out of wedlock. She had no idea what she was supposed to me doing, but she knew she was chosen and so she would continue.

Sometimes I feel the same way. I know God has an awesome plan for my life, but I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing. How many nights have I called out to Him to guide me and protect me on my way? The last verse really spoke to me. "Do you wonder as you watch my face, if a wiser one should have had my place?" Would someone else be better for this God? After all the times I've messed up, you still want me? God knows what he's doing...

This song made me see that Christmas is something that is relevant to me today, not just some old story.
